Educational and professional requirements
Education: A Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering is a common requirement. Some specialized roles may look for a B.Sc. in Geomatics or B. Tech. in Surveying Engineering.
Experience: Experience in land and site surveys is necessary, especially for roles involving Total Station use. Years of experience will vary depending on the role, with some jobs specifying a minimum of 3 to 5 years, particularly in private sector positions.
Skills:
Technical Proficiency: Must be able to use and understand various survey instruments like Total Station and GPS (DGPS).
Software: Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant software is often required for data analysis and drawing.
Analytical Skills: Attention to detail and accuracy in data collection and analysis are crucial.
Mapping: Knowledge of topographical surveying and mapping is a core requirement.
Key Responsibilities:
Data Collection: Conduct land and site surveys using instruments like the Total Station to ensure accuracy against project requirements.
Mapping and Analysis: Create detailed maps, including contour maps and site plans.
Report Generation: Prepare survey reports and documentation for various projects.
